Jamaican’s opinions regarding casino gambling are beginning to change. More and more Jamaicans are in favor of legalizing gambling casino games such as roulette and blackjack and want the Government to lift the existing bans.
The increased income for the island and also the addition of jobs are two reasons as to why they are changing their minds towards a more permissive law.
The Bill Johnson poll, held in January 12 and 13, 2008, showed an eight percent increase in the number of people who want to lift the ban on casino gambling. The survey revealed that 48 percent of the 1,008 people from the island were in favor of the State keeping the sanction on the casinos which are currently illegal.
In spite of the survey, there are those who strongly believe that the public opinion is not always correct. As the President of the Jamaica Council of Churches, Reverend Karl Johnson said: “What is proper is not necessarily proper.”
