Installation of casinos allowed in Jamaica

Within a few months, Jamaica will open its doors to one of the strongest attractions in the international tourism industry: casinos. The authorization will revolutionize tourism and attract large investments in the island.

These establishments will incorporate to the island more than 10,000 new luxury suites and employ 25,000 workers over the next 10 years.

The government imposes a minimum investment of 1,500 million dollars in the construction of at least 1,000 rooms. The casino may not exceed 20% of the total project. The applying companies must also certify responsibility and experience in the market.

The installation of two casino projects has already been approved, one of them is The Palmyra Resort & Spa for the "Celebration Jamaica" project, whose investment will be about 1,800 million dollars, within 15 minutes from the airport in Montego Bay and the other is Tavistock Jamaica for "Harmony Cove" whose construction will begin in 2010.
