The Mayor of Guaymallén, Alejandro Abraham, has expressed his concern over the fate that five-star hotels and casinos planned near a shopping center in his department will have. He asks for the proscription of the law banning the installations of new casinos or a special decree to proceed with the project in a shopping mall.
His complaint is shared by many mayors who see this ban undermine future efforts in their departments.
Abraham pointed out the contradictions of the law arguing that on the one hand, the government wants to combat gambling by prohibiting the installation of new casinos, but on the other hand, allows the opening of state casinos.
In the words of the mayor, the casino that will open in Guaymallén will not affect citizens of Mendoza or burst the dependence on gambling because it is a complex with a five-star hotel in the world “and for the costs of storage, is not for the local public, but to tourism and international visitors”.
